November 2005 marked the beginning of our tenth year of trading on the Internet. Our website is now very much more sophisticated and comprehensive than the very simple and limited original pages, the first of which was first posted in November 1996. As one of the first organisations to offer playing cards for sale on the internet, we feel we have come a long way since the early days and are pleased to be probably the longest established internet traders in playing cards on the WWW.

This year we are celebrating 25 years in the business of selling playing cards - R. Somerville Playing Cards was established in February 1981. See "About is" for more information.





NEWS FROM THE STOCKROOM (February 2005)

Mr Somerville is off on his travels visiting the trade fairs around Europe as I write, searching for new and interesting packs and playing card related items to offer you in the weeks ahaed. Last year, we added over 200 new packs to our range - I've got a bet with the boss that he won't find as many new packs this year - but then I'm probably wrong more often than he is so perhaps he will beat that record!!

At the other extreme, spare a thought for some of the old and very old items we have. We have recently completed our annual stocktake and find that since last year, about 150 lines have gone out of stock for ever, and there are about 100 lines that we are down to the last 1, 2 or 3 packs of. Many of these are things which we have had for up to 20 years or even more, so the chances are that "new" (i.e. unused as opposed to second-hand) examples of these items will not be available from any other source. As previously, we have marked each of these items "(lc)" so if you type that (without the quotes) into the search system, you will get a list of all these items which you can then work through one by one to be sure you don't miss any.

Meanwhile, I have samples of another couple of dozen packs which I'll get scanned and posted on the site soon to add to the ones I did over Christmas. Use the "What's new" link above to find your way to new items or ones which have recently had pictures added. We now have over 1,500 packs illustrated which only leaves me just under 1,000 to do. Still, it keeps me out of mischief!!

Update - 22nd March 2005. So far this year we have added 80 new packs to our range and I've scanned about 200 packs so there are lots of new images to look at. Use the "What's new" link to find these. Website Manager.

NEW STOCK & NEW PICTURES

Details have recently been added to the website for over 100 packs newly in stock since the beginning of the year. In addition, over the last few days, we have selected samples and scanned images from over 130 packs which were not previously illustrated and added these to the website. You can find which packs are new and which have had pictures added recently by clicking the link above to 'What's new?'.

POSTAGE AND PACKING RATES REVIEWED

You will be pleased to hear that as a result of fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Pound and the Euro we have been able to review our postage and packing rates. From today, all postage and packing rates have been reduced by approximately 5%.

LAST CHANCE TO BUY FROM US

Following our stocktake at the end of January 2004, we have identified a number of packs of which we have only one (or very few) left and don't expect to be able to get more. A note to this effect has been added to each of these items. You can find these by typing "last chance" in the search function text box (click "search" above). You will then get a list of all these items which you can work through to see if any of them are of interest to you.
