Commemoration of the Millennium.

The 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ is marked by the use of a selection of the many different crosses used in heraldry. The large black cross is a Celtic cross and upon it are, at the top, a cross potent, on the left, a Maltese cross, and on the right, a cross formy or paty; beneath the star (which is the central feature to remind us that it is Christ's birth rather than His death that is being celebrated) is a patriarchal cross and beneath the arms of the Company is the cross, without any qualification, that we associate with England & St George. The design also includes a cross bottony, a cross patonce, a cross fourchy, a cross recercely, a cross-crosslet, a cross flory, a cross pommy and a cross moline.

When Cards became "Collectables".

Master of the Company 2002-3: Roderick Somerville, M.A.

The design chosen for this year's cards celebrates several things. Above all, however, a deliberate effort has been made to recall the style of design used on many of the Company's cards prior to 1900 when the Arms of the Company were always the most prominent feature.

For the first time in about 20 years this year's WCMPC packs have been both designed and printed in the U.K.
