Troubleshooting suggestions

  Problem Suggestion

1. I'm getting an error message which says the server has timed out. There may be an intermittent problem with the main server we are using for our catalogue or there may simply be too many people trying to use the catalogue at the same time.

Try clicking the refresh button on your browser a couple of times. If that doesn't work, please try again in half an hour or so.

PLEASE tell us if you have difficulty so we can have a go at our Internet Service Provider and get them to sort this out. Send an e-mail to the website manager by using our contact form.)

2. I've entered my order quantities on the boxes on the catalogue pages, and followed through the checkout process but don't seem to be able to complete my order. We are concerned there may be a problem with the secure server we are using for our catalogue. PLEASE tell us if you have difficulty so we can have a go at our Internet Service Provider and get them to sort this out. Send an e-mail to the website manager by using our contact form.)

We are pretty sure the problem is intermittent, so if you keep trying, or keep waiting, you will probably get through.

3. The options banner disappears when I move to a new page. Did you use a right click (on your mouse) and then the "open new window" option? If so, please don't! Follow through the catalogue using left clicks only - there are links on each page to take you forward as you require and it's also fine to use the back button on your browser menu bar.

4. I've entered my order quantities on the boxes on the catalogue pages, but nothing comes through to the shopping basket. Do you have a recent enough browser to run Java? If not, download one from the internet (Internet Explorer from Microsoft or Netscape) or get one free with a PC magazine. If your browser is new enough, is Java fully enabled?

Alternatively, you may have a problem with cookies. The system our catalogue uses to operate requires that users accept them. The trouble is, some people still think that cookies come to life in the middle of the night and eat their children. They don't. Therefore, we suggest you make sure you have enabled cookies (you should be able to find the right place on a menu such as tools, internet options, privacy, advanced options or something similar in your internet browser - you may well be able to enable cookies on a per site basis in which case, you can if you wish only enable cookies on the playingcardsales.co.uk domain).

The cookies we use on this site are "session cookies" which means that they only exist for as long as you are viewing our site, and when you leave they are deleted and are not stored on your computer.

5. I have noticed recently that when trying to display "more images" of playing cards I get this message: The page cannot be found
This is the url that it is trying to access for example: http:/www.playingcardsales.co.uk/cards/morepics/13757_8_fat_pack.jpg
Has this facility been discontinued or will it be reinstated?
A month or so back, for various technical reasons, we re-located the directory in which these images are stored. The images are definitely still available and I have just double-checked that the Fat Pack "more images" page does work.

You can see the address your browser should be trying to go to to see these images at the bottom of this picture (click to view) My browser puts the address of any link I hover my mouse over at the bottom of the page as you should be able to see. (It is this: http://www.playingcardsales.com/cards/morepics/13757_8_fat_pack.jpg)

I wonder if for some reason, your internet browser is not referring to the most recent version of pages on our site. It may be referring to pages it "cached" on a previous visit in which case the links may well be wrong. Try "refreshing" the page when you are looking at the Fat Pack's main page, or you could try clearing your browser's cache and see if that makes a difference. If it does, and you are using Internet Explorer, you might like to check your settings as indicated in this illustration (click to view) - you really do want your browser to check for newer versions of any page each time you visit a page as otherwise you will miss out on updated content on many websites on the www. If using a browser other than Internet Explorer, you will have to search around to see if there are similar options which you have control over.
